Bklyn Designs
Location: Locations in DUMBO, Brooklyn, NY
Date: May 9-11, 2008
Description: Bklyn Designs, organized by the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, is the grassroots juried design show highlighting furnishings produced in Brooklyn, New York. Mega retailer Target has signed on as a presenting sponsor for the sixth annual edition, which is also sponsored in part by Interior Design.
As part of its sponsorship, Target will premier the Target Design Speaker Series, featuring leading voices in the industry. "At Target, we believe that great design is more than great products, aesthetics and style," says Laura Sandall, the firm's director of events marketing and publicity. "It’s about promoting creativity and innovation that leads to extraordinary products, processes and experiences; making great design accessible to all."
Exhibitors will present indoor and outdoor furniture, rugs, lighting, and accessories. The jury will pay particular attention to sustainability and products created from eco conscious materials. Offerings also include an extensive mix of panels, seminars, and events, as well as Bklyn Designs+, the cash and carry accessories market now in its second year.
In addition to Interior Design, returning sponsors include Bosch, Thermador, Gaggenau, Greenpoint Manufacturing and Design Center, Two Trees Management, the Clarett Group, New York Magazine, Benjamin Moore & Co., Con Edison, and the Pratt Institute.
The jury includes Karen Singh, market editor, Interior Design; Paul Makovsky, editorial director, Metropolis; Michael Cannell, New York editor, Dwell; Chip Cordelli, editorial stylist; Chris Craig, designer and creative director of Suite New York; Jen Renzi, freelance journalist; Rima Suqi, freelance journalist and former New York Magazine, Best Bets editor.
