10 Design Talents Craft Innovative Benches for Stockholm Park

101.6 OD 305 CLR by Max Lamb. Photography by Jezzica Sunmo.

Benches supply public parks with much-needed space for repose. Kvarnbacken Park, located in the Stockholm suburb of Järfälla, will transform its entire seating stock as part of SUPERBENCHES, an initiative of the Kalejdohill urban development project. Curator Felix Burrichter tapped leading design talents to upgrade the park’s existing benches—or offer up entirely new designs. Each concept from the star-studded roster, which includes Soft Baroque and Philippe Malouin, provides a clever take on how street furniture supports the public realm. Järfälla residents will vote on their favorite designs next year, and the winning benches will be permanently installed. View more shortlisted designs below.
