Department of Design and Construction

“The Design and Construction Excellence Program has produced high-quality buildings for public use, but has also reshaped the City’s procurement process by having the firms already on hand and pre-qualified,” says David J. Burney, FAIA, Department of Design and Construction Commissioner.

Design can begin in a few weeks after a project is assigned to a firm, rather than the six to nine months required under past procurement methods, he explains. “Design Excellence matches the best firms to the right projects and the results will continue to serve the public for decades to come,” adds Burney.
