6 Brands to Watch at BKLYN DESIGNS
This year, BKLYN DESIGNS is showcasing over 70 Brooklyn-based brands that specialize in contemporary furniture, lighting, and accessories. Taking place at Greenpoint’s Brooklyn Expo Center as part of NYCxDESIGN, BKLYN DESIGNS proves that the borough’s burgeoning creative community shows no signs of slowing down. Attractions such as David Rockwell’s celebrated Imagination Playground—which encourages children to freely reconfigure an assortment of cerulean foam blocks—make a return, while others such as Todd Bracher’s quartz crystal Vessel Chandelier for Humanscale are new to the roster. Below, check out six brands to watch from the show:
Still Alive Lights
Custom chandelier and pendant manufacturer Still Alive Lights showcases 3-D printed fixtures that take the form of bears, elephants, and flowers, among other nature-inspired designs. The booth even features a 3-D printer creating a bear-shaped table light, offering insight into the company’s innovative process.
Think Fabricate
Selects from furniture brand Think Fabricate‘s booth include the Cafe Table, which has a burled walnut veneer top that creates a mirrored kaleidoscopic pattern, and the artfully arranged Wall*nut Hexagons, a wall-mounted wooden shelving system.
Public Supply
Part of the BKLYN BUYS marketplace, stationery manufacturer Public Supply presents its sleek line of hand-bound notebooks in pastel-hued velvets—a recent introduction—and a colorful cover collaboration with artist Edward Granger.
Naula
Presiding over BKLYN DESIGNS is Naula’s 28-foot-tall Shadow Man, a functional, one-of-a-kind ceiling-suspended sculpture originally designed as seating.
The Bushwick-based workshop also furnished the VIP/Press lounge with custom pieces such as the Float Bookshelf, Mini Abyss Sofa, and Everyday Collection of ottomans.
CAUV Design
CAUV Design, led by furniture designer Joe Cauvel, showcases a number of topographical furnishings such as a welded matte white steel-framed chair in burnt walnut and a Japanese-inspired credenza in oiled white oak.
Aimée Wilder
Fabric and textiles designer Aimée Wilder presents an assortment of plush patterned pillows and wall coverings in her signature cheerful colors. New to her roster is the Phantasmagoria Collection, which includes rugs, pillows, fabric, and wallpaper.
