Ara Thorose Reveals Inaugural Soft Limits Collection
Rubber, PVC, steel. Designer Ara Thorose is a fan of such tough materials. But he
reveals a gentler side with Soft Cylinders, the inaugural collection from his Soft Limits brand. “Each chair is one line exploring movement,” Thorose explains. That’s evident in the cantilever of 5M, which merges five curving elements that rise up to nestle the lower back, encouraging upright sitting. “The cylinders are about the circumference of an adult’s thigh,” Thorose says of the steel framework, which is padded with two foam layers, one firm and one cushiony, and then covered in a single swath of worsted merino wool fabric—another of Thorose’s creations—in six colors including Midnight.
