Barbara D’Arcy: 1985 Hall of Fame Inductee

Barbara D’Arcy was vice president and director of merchandise presentation for Bloomingdale’s. Joining the New York-based retailing chain in 1953, Ms. D’Arcy’s responsibilities included merchandise display and furniture design, and from 1958-73 she designed and supervised hundreds of model rooms for the store. In 1973, with the company on the verge of a major expansion program, D’Arcy was made responsible for store design, and in 1975, she became a merchandising executive, traveling in Europe and Asia as part of a Bloomingdale’s team of design scouts.
