BIG and Heatherwick Studio to Design Google’s London HQ

Google has chosen Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) and Heatherwick Studio to design the tech giant’s London headquarters at King’s Cross. A new building, planned for 10 stories and 650,000 square feet, will join two other structures on the 67-acre campus. The structure is Google’s first wholly owned and designed building outside the United States.
 

Currently, Google is renting a 380,000 square-foot building at the nearby 6 Pancras Square, which will accommodate 2,500 employees. Construction on a third building that Google will lease is underway and slated for completion in 2018.

“The Silicon Valley startup garage meets the London train sheds in a building that couples clarity with eccentricity and anchors innovation with heritage,” the two firms said about the new structure in a joint statement.
 

Last year, Google tapped both firms to design its new Mountain View, California, headquarters.
