Birthdays of 2017: From Frank Lloyd Wright to Flooring
Design milestones take center stage in 2017. Interior Design’s 85th birthday joins the centennials of industry luminaries Ettore Sottsass and I.M. Pei. Cristóbal Balenciaga’s Paris couture house turns 80, and Frank Lloyd Wright would be 150 this month.
Gerflor has two more reasons to celebrate: the 80th anniversary of its Mipolam line and the 70th anniversary of Taraflex. Both are industry firsts in their respective product categories and are as valued by designers and specifiers today as they were when introduced to the market decades ago. “Mipolam and Taraflex have evolved with the industry for 80 years and are the reference of specifications in their respective category,” Gerflor’s senior director of marketing Catherine del Vecchio says. Mipolam, the original homogeneous sheet flooring, provides high-performance flooring in over 300 colorways for heavily trafficked healthcare facilities and other commercial settings. Taraflex, the original resilient sports flooring, can be found in over 70,000 gymnasiums throughout the U.S., and through IHF and FIVB agreements, was used in 10 consecutive Olympic Games.
