Blips: Agnes Martin

They have New Mexico in common… Agnes Martin’s house and studio stood on 3 acres in the town of Galisteo, her paintings influenced by the surrounding land. In “Agnes Martin/Navajo Blankets,” curator Josh Baer draws a parallel between her minimalist large-scale works, such as the untitled circle-square composition and sunset-reminiscent Gratitude, and the pared-down geometry of the wool-blend blankets made in the 1800s by local Navajo women. The exhibition appears at Pace Gallery in Palo Alto, California, September 26 to October 28, then travels to the gallery’s New York outpost November 14.
