Blips: It’s a half mile from Gotham…

It’s a half mile from Gotham. But, thanks to Collective Governors Island, the former coast guard and military base turned public park feels like a safari campsite. There may not be elephants and rhinos roaming but there are 37 luxury canvas tents, some with a private bathroom, that Collective Retreats head designer Cassie Novick has furnished in a Scandi-nautical minimalism. The site’s Three Peaks restaurant sources its seafood and produce from the island’s Urban Farm. In a similarly sustainable vein, when the accommodations pack up for the season in October, the landscape remains intact.
