Brooks + Scarpa’s Arboreal Installation Brightens a South Florida Plaza
To fabricate Gateway Sculpture at Pembroke Pines, commissioned from Brooks + Scarpa Architects for a plaza outside a Florida convention and cultural venue, the Charles F. Dodge City Center, Denver’s Yetiweurks began by welding steel plates together for the base.
Stainless-steel pipes formed the tops of one of the treelike sculptures.

Automotive paint, yellow to coordinate with City Center’s branding, was sprayed onto the “trunks.”
Components were trucked to the site.
A boom forklift maneuvered a completed sculpture into position, framing the pedestrian portal to the plaza.
Perforations were cut by water jet.
