High-end Danish furniture manufacturer Carl Hansen & Son is perhaps best known for catapulting the late Hans J. Wegner’s designs to international acclaim. The company began its partnership with Wegner back in 1949, thanks to Carl Hansen’s son, Holger. Fast-forward to today, and Wegner would have been preparing to celebrate his 105th birthday on April 2.

That’s why—for a super-limited-time—Carl Hansen & Son is launching a never before-seen version of the designer’s Wishbone Chair. This variant, which has not even been produced before, features an oiled-walnut frame and a goat leather seat.

“We’ve chosen to combine the red goat leather with a frame made of oiled walnut in order to enhance the exclusive look. The chair differs significantly from the woven paper cord variant, and the special edition is now being offered to design enthusiasts and collectors worldwide. Wegner’s furniture enjoys such a prominent place in people’s minds, and all his pieces have the potential to be challenged by new materials. This we have now done with the goat leather seat variant, which can be purchased in addition to the world-famous Wishbone Chair with the woven paper cord seat,” said Carl Hansen & Son CEO Knud Erik Hansen in a statement about the chair’s release.

The limited-edition design can be purchased online through Carl Hansen & Son, or at the manufacturer’s flagships and authorized dealers on April 2.
