Editors’ Picks: 41 Powerful Building Products
Showstopping, fully customizable staircases are this Italian maker Rizzi Stair‘s forte. Exhibit A: Scaloro, designed by architect Carlo Caretta. The self-supporting single helix can be specified in diameters ranging from 43 1/4 to 118 inches. Meanwhile, conceived by designer Maria Andretto, Nella Vetrina‘s Inside Out brings panache to any application, from a backsplash to a feature wall. Handmade in Murano, the glass modules are fully customizable in color, shape, and design. And the renowned Japanese manufacturer Abe Kogyo marks its 70th anniversary with Seven Doors. Nendo designer Oki Sato reinterpreted the architectural mainstay in refreshingly unpredictable ways, such as integrating a lamp and shade (powered by electrical lock wiring) and shelves and picture frames (so the door seems to dissolve into the walls). “We treated each door to a different idea born from the company’s techniques and experiences. The designs open up new possibilities for various by-products, displaying a wide range of future product development,” says Sato.
