Eric Brand Launches Juniper, High-End Furniture for the Home
Eric Brand’s got a brand-new brand. Meet Juniper, named for a tree that flourishes in the designer’s Northern California environs and tailored for the residential realm rather than, say, Viceroy Hotels or the Wynn Las Vegas, among the high-end hospitality projects for which he has provided custom furniture. His homage to the home celebrates timeless materials, techniques, and silhouettes. The J9 lounge chair’s curvaceous frame in lacquered beech nods to Paris, circa Coco Chanel, and that epoch is echoed in the deco-esque J28 desk, its solid-oak frame topped in leather being a perfect coordinate for the J4 leather-upholstered armchair. Solid oak also surrounds the generous seat of the J1 swiveling barrel chair and tops the J2 dining table’s pyramidal steel base. Mimicking Chinese lacquer, crackled linen wraps the J24 end table, while marquetry embellishes the J10 credenza. Cast brass adds mod glitz to the J11A side table’s base, a branchlike counterpoint to the J16 cocktail table’s tree-stump form cast in resin. Finally, the resin J7 side table makes a point for whimsy with an anthropomorphic index finger pointing upward to support the top.
