Estudio Campana Goes Wild for Nature in New Show at Friedman Benda

“Fernando and Humberto Campana: Hybridism” opens at the Friedman Benda gallery in New York on September 7. Photography by Fernando Laszlo/Friedman Benda and Estudio Campana.

The pirarucu is one of several nature-related muses for the 25 pieces by Estudio Campana in “Fernando and Humberto Campana: Hybridism” at the Friedman Benda gallery in New York, starting September 7. The Sereia Pirarucu lounge chair, clad in real fish skin, has a “tail” cast in bronze. Sticks collected during Humberto’s daily runs through the parks of São Paulo, Brazil, then cast in the same metal, became the legs of the Branches sofa. Meanwhile, the Noah side table and shelf, Ark references, are cast aluminum.
