For Ombré Window Treatments, Zak Profera Finds Inspiration in Madagascar Folklore

Curiosity has lured Zak Profera of Zak + Fox around the globe, recharging his imagination in unlikely places. In Madagascar, he discovered the whirlwinds that soak the island’s Indian Ocean coast during the rainy season. Legend has it that they carry spirits within—and that was enough for Profera.

He has interpreted this folkloric legend via a window treatment called Tail of Heaven. “It’s like an apparition twisting into fluid form, each with its own soul,” he says of the ombré linen panels. Measuring 12 feet long by 4½ wide, the panels are digitally printed in Italy and available in purple, blue, green, rose, gold, gray, and natural.
