HAY Sets up Shop in North America
Mark your calendar for November 15: Danish brand HAY lands stateside with the opening of their first U.S. location in Portland, Oregon, this month. The bastion of high-design furniture and accessories, founded in 2002 by power couple Mette and Rolf Hay, will occupy a new 3,400-square-foot brick and mortar in the booming Pearl District, a former industrial area within walking distance of downtown.
“The opening of the Portland store represents the first step in an exciting journey for us,” says Rolf Hay. “We share Portland’s affinity for craftsmanship and creativity, and we welcome customers to explore our designs in this new environment.”
The retail shop will give a taste of the multi-floor HAY House located in the Scandinavian capital, a pilgrimage spot for many brand enthusiasts. The store’s light color palette and natural materials will buoy the Nordic sensibility of the maker’s furniture, textiles, kitchenware, and tabletop accessories. Items will be displayed utilizing their own New Order shelving system, a collaboration with designer Stefan Diez. Non-Portlanders, don’t fret—the brand also launches a dedicated North American e-commerce destination for stocking up on limited-edition Sonos, George Sowden’s colorful stainless-steel travel bottle design, Palissade outdoor furniture by the Bouroullec brothers, and interactive Kaleido trays via HAY.com, no plane ticket required.
