South America Comes to Bard in 2 Exhibits

South America is the focus of two exhibitions at the Bard Graduate Center in Manhattan. “Waterweavers” is curated by José Roca, adjunct curator of Latin American Art at Tate Modern and artistic director of FLORA ars+natura, and writer Alejandro Martín, and runs until August 10. The exhibition features river-related photography, drawings, sculpture, textiles, lighting, videos, and installations, all by Colombian artists, including Susana Mejía, Jorge Lizarazo/Hechizoo, and Alvaro Catalán de Ocón. “Carrying Coca,” on view through August 3, showcases the 1,500-year tradition of chuspas through 33 antique and vintage of the satchel bags, which were handwoven in Peru, Bolivia, and Ecuador.
