Lalanne on the Loose: Sheep Graze at NYC Gas Station
Taxi garages have given way to art galleries in New York’s Chelsea neighborhood, and now one of the last gas stations is on the way out, too. Before it’s replaced by a luxury apartment building, real-estate developers SHVO and Victor Homes are hosting a public art program there.
The first installation, Sheep Station, was conceived with the Paul Kasmin Gallery, which represents the estate of François-Xavier Lalanne. Alongside the pumps, signage, and convenience store, actual grass and live arborvitae set the surreal scene for 25 of Lalanne’s signature sheep.
