Marvel Architects, the firm behind Pierhouse and 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge, are bringing their flair for thoughtful, environmentally friendly design to the Bronx with the Edenwald YMCA. Measuring 50,000 square feet, the new location will feature three pavilions connected by a glass corridor that allows views onto landscaped courtyards. Marvel plans to include two swimming pools, a wellness center, a 7,200-square-foot dividable gymnasium, and several multipurpose and community rooms in the final design. The firm has employed passive and active sustainability techniques to earn a LEED v4 Gold rating.

As a part of Mayor Bill de Blasio’s OneNYC initiative, Marvel’s intent is to design a multifunctional space that will bring together the youth and families that live in northeast Bronx. Construction will begin in fall of 2018 and is slated for completion in 2020.
