Off to the Races: Studio Antares Designs the Suites at Santa Anita Park
New York’s Belmont Park isn’t the only track making news. Santa Anita Park, built in 1934 outside Los Angeles, is sporting a whole new look, courtesy of suites by Studio Antares. Unlike standard sports suites, say for tennis or basketball, where there’s constant action for long periods of time, these ones need to operate more like living rooms, since horse races are short and sporadic. Thus, the banquettes—their upholstery in a color inspired by tack—the oak tables and chairs, and the generous floor plans encourage hanging out. Once the starting gun goes off, glass panels retract, so spectators feel they’re a part of the action.
