The 1300-square foot boutique, located at 220 Murray Street in the Goldman Sachs building in downtown Manhattan, is Artsee’s second shop in New York City and its third overall. on Lincoln Road, but took a totally different design approach to the latest boutique. The goal is to make each store “unique to each city and also unique to the location within the city,” says Kroeckel, adding that Openshop plans to design another Artsee shop within the next year.
The custom-designed display tables and modular furniture allow for a more flexible space.
Whereas the Miami boutique is all glitz and glam, the Murray Street shop is light and airy with reclaimed pine light fixtures and wall cut-outs that showcase the company’s unique frames. “The Miami store was black and a refuge from the sun,” explains Kroeckel, who along with his partner have worked with Artsee Eyewear for about three years. “[The NYC store] became light, warm and wood with subtle and minimal detailing.” The larger space also allowed Openshop to integrate the rotating art pieces more seamlessly into a set of continuous tracks that are built around the perimeter of the shop. The custom designed display tables and modular furniture also allows the space to be completely reconfigured on a daily basis. It’s a store that takes design, not to mention eyewear, seriously.
