Paola Paronetto’s Textured Ceramics Fuse Paper and Clay

Artistry is in her DNA. Her maternal grandfather was a sculptor, and she has spent the past decade developing an innovative method of working with clay—and showing the resulting pieces in her native Italy, at the Cersaie fair in Bologna, and at Maison & Objet in Paris. Now the Contemporary Ceramics Centre in London is presenting “Paola Paronetto: Paper & Clay,” July 13 to August 5. The 100 vessels composing the exhibition represent Paronetto’s signature textured treatment, which combines earthenware or stoneware with materials such as paper, cardboard, and pulp. “When I open the kiln, I still experience the most surprising moments,” she says. “My work is a tribute to the beauty of imperfection.”
