Paul Smith Juxtaposes the Classics and the Unexpected for a Colorful Fabric Collection

Dots.

Apart from his day job, Paul Smith has spent the past
15 years translating traditional suiting concepts into upholstery fabrics, thanks to an ever-fruitful association with Maharam
. The collaboration continues with Dots, a jaunty take on a woven silk necktie from
the Brit’s spring/summer
2017 menswear collection. “I take classic designs and add the unexpected, whether a
printed lining inside a
classic navy jacket or
brightly colored socks
under a classic formal
suit,” he says. Here, the
twist comes from the
juxtaposition of a miniature houndstooth, constructed using a dense
warp with alternating
colors of cotton and
nylon, and twill dots,
woven from lustrous,
mercerized cotton.
Choose from nine colors,
from neutrals to pastels.
