Raf Simons Upholsters 100 Cassina Feltri Chairs in Vintage American Quilts

Raf Simons, the visionary chief creative officer of Calvin Klein, has always admired the boundary-pushing work of Gaetano Pesce. So it’s no surprise that the all-American fashion brand’s inaugural showcase at DesignMiami/ Basel saw Simons add a uniquely American spin to one of Pesce’s most iconic furnishings: the Feltri armchair (1987) through Cassina. Simons upholstered 100 Feltri in one-of-a-kind American heirloom quilts that date to the 19th and 20th centuries—a nod to the era’s bygone craftsmanship—and arranged them around a freestanding barn clad in 19th-century reclaimed wood envisioned for Calvin Klein’s 205W39NYC Fall 2018 runway show. Chairs 1-50 were sold at the show, which wrapped on June 17, but the remaining 50 will be available for purchase through Cassina at a later date.
