Ron Arad’s Sculpture Arrives at London’s Historic Train Station
St Pancras International, London’s Grade I–listed railway station completed in 1868 by engineer William Henry Barlow, has been fast-tracking its contemporary credentials via Terrace Wires, a series of suspended sculptures commissioned in partnership with the Royal Academy of Arts. The latest site-specific installation is by Ron Arad Associates. Hanging 30 feet in the air, on steel cables, the 4,600-pound, 60-foot-long twist of aluminum slowly will rotate via motorized power in the station until January. In Ron Arad’s cheeky fashion, he’s named the piece Thought of Train of Thought. He has another sculpture, Spyre, that one in Cor-Ten steel, simultaneously on view in the Royal Academy’s courtyard.
