The Millionth Porsche 911 Vehicle Pays Homage to the Very First
Jerry Seinfeld owns the first Porsche 911 ever produced. But the millionth one just rolled off the assembly line at the automaker’s headquarters in Stuttgart, Germany. During the car’s recent worldwide road trip, it debuted in New York alongside the comedian’s 1964 model. Since Ferdinand Porsche first sketched out that original, in 1959, the pinnacle of sports-car design has gone through seven generations. Initially prized for its distinctive fenders and oversize windows—and, starting in the early ‘70’s, its trendsetting rear aerodynamic spoiler, aka the ducktail—the latest iteration pays homage to the first, with a British racing green exterior, leather upholstery, wool houndstooth-check inserts, and mahogany trim. Unlike its predecessors, however, it’s not for sale, instead parked for all to see inside the equally aerodynamic Porsche Museum, by Delugan Meissl Associated Architects, next to where it was made.
