Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy: Hormazd Narielwalla’s Collage and Sculpture
What you major in at university isn’t always what you end up doing professionally. Hormazd Narielwalla came pretty close, however. He studied to be a menswear designer, and, after graduating from London’s University of Westminster, he did immerse himself in tailoring. But his fascination with discards from the bespoke tailors of Savile Row instead led to a book, Dead Man’s Patterns, and subsequently to collage and sculpture.
In his artwork, the fashion references have expanded to include military uniforms and women’s lingerie, often vintage. Five of his works are appearing in Project Space, the emerging-artist arm of the contemporary fair Collect, celebrating its 10th anniversary at London’s Saatchi Gallery from May 10 to 13.
