2013 BOY Winner: Large House

A family relocating from London purchased this town house, which had just been gut-renovated by Wayne Turett—a job that included installing walnut floors and an elevator to connect the six levels. The task of infusing the 7,800 square feet with color, texture, and jovial nods to Britishness fell to Revamp partners Danielle Fennoy and Cece Stelljes. In the entry, for example, there’s a Union Jack cowhide rug.

Much of the house’s warmth comes from the choice of wall treatments. The kitchen’s elaborately patterned wallpaper was customized to fade gradually, creating a softer transition to the stair hall. Lustrous blue silk turns the master bedroom into a soigné retreat, while, in the dressing room, a kaleidoscopic print on the ceiling combines with feather-festooned drum fixtures. The most eye-popping intervention, completed with Matthew Viederman, is unseen by casual visitors: a basement lap pool with one side in clear acrylic, like a fish tank.
