2013 BOY Winner: Religious

White wedding, indeed. The otherworldly serenity of a hotel’s nuptial chapel by Danny Cheng and Simon Kwan derives from an unlikely source: The layered ceiling has the racy lines of a Lamborghini, transposed on a 52-foot-tall A-frame. It surmounts glass walls, offering spectacular views, to shelter a 2,100-square-foot space suitable for up to 120 guests, who sit not in standard pews but in rows of fabric-draped chairs. They face a bridal stage with furnishings that are all-transparent thereby preserving the view, through a wide trapezoidal window, toward Hong Kong Disneyland.

The seaside site suggested that the chapel be set in a reflecting pool. During daylight hours, the building appears to emerge from the depths. At night, the pool becomes a liquid mirror.
