Bohn Architecture & Design Brings Luxe Touches to a Manhattan Townhouse

Having already executed residences for this New York couple and their extended family, the principals at Bohn Architecture & Design were completely in sync with their longtime clients’ needs. Now that the couple’s children had flown the nest, a move was in order: from the expansive family home in Brooklyn to a town house in Manhattan. Unlike their former abode, where the kids’ needs took priority, the focus in this house would be on la bella vita, with five stories laden with entertaining areas both formal and informal.

The project scope included refacing the building in chiseled stone tile. Photography by Regan Wood.

The exterior of the house was refaced with mottled monochrome stone. Unafraid of bold contrasts, designers Silvia Baltrusitis and Kelly Woodruff decked out the interiors in dramatic black, white, silver, and gray accented with hits of royal blue. The color crops up in abstract art, plush-velvet armchairs, mosaic-pattern wallpaper, and rock star–worthy snakeskin chairs at the games table. (“Clean yet lush” is how the designers describe the aesthetic.)

A dash of humor also gures in the mix. Take the multimedia artwork in the den that incorporates not only the QR codes of liquor on display at the bar (la bella vita indeed!), but also one that leads to the website of the masterminds behind all this fabulousness: Bohn Architecture & Design.

Project Team: Silvia Baltrusitis, Kelly Woodruff (Interiors); Warren Bohn (Architecture).
