Bold Color and Geometry Define Portable Wall Collection by Maria Jeglinska

Who says a room divider needs to be a wallflower? Instead of plain vanilla, the Portable Wall collection by Warsaw-based designer Maria Jeglinska delivers freestanding horizontal and vertical surfaces in bold color and geometry.

Commissioned by the Museum of Applied Arts in Budapest in collaboration with the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, the collection is a result of the “In Circulation” exhibition series, which invites designers to conceive a project inspired by an existing item or items in the museum’s collection.

For her inspiration, Jeglinska, founder of Office for Design & Research, selected a 1969 armchair by Sándor Mikó. Mikó designed the armchair to be included in his interior design of Te + Én Espresso, a café in Budapest.

“Portable Walls are abstract forms which do not point to a specific function, but rather offer freedom in choosing the way they are used and arranged,” says Jeglinska. “The distinctive feet were directly inspired by those of Mikó’s armchair and imply (with a dose of humor) the idea of movement.”

Curated by Judit Horváth and Agnieszka Jacobson-Cielecka, “In Circulation: Maria Jeglinska” will run through June 9th at the Museum of Applied Arts in Budapest.
