The most awe-inducing spaces in the world seamlessly marry natural and built environments. One only need imagine a seaside resort or mountain lodge with soft outdoor lighting and chic lounge chairs to recognize the design’s impact on the overall guest experience. But when it comes to specifying durable fabrics that can withstand the elements and elevate the aesthetic of a space, designers have limited options.

Vong Kitchen and Le Burger at the Alila SCBD Jakarta—a boutique luxury hotel in Indonesia—exemplify the power of performance fabrics used purposefully in indoor and outdoor spaces. Vong Kitchen, a concept by Michelin-starred chef Jean-Georges and his son Cedric, designed by the Rockwell Group, melds French-American flavors in an open kitchen with a street-side terrace. While Le Burger, imagined by the same pair, offers diners a more casual option with a beer garden overlooking the Sudirman Central Business District in Jakarta. Both restaurants rely on Sunbrella and Sunbrella Contract’s performance fabrics to enhance their overall aesthetic.

Sunbrella Contract offers designers more than a bevy of durable, stunning fabrics, though. Its textiles also are easily cleanable, UV and fade-resistant, and engineered to stave off the growth of mold and mildew. The company, which built its reputation by developing innovative and functional awning fabrics meant to outlast cotton in the 1960’s, continues to raise the bar when it comes to quality. Now stiff, unwelcoming performance fabrics are a thing of the past, given Sunbrella Contract’s portfolio of soft, yet durable, textiles.

“Our fabrics perform in the most demanding commercial applications. They enable designers to bring a project to life without worry for the durability or beauty of their spaces for years to come,” said Tracy Greene, Design Director at Sunbrella. “For designers, that means having the confidence of knowing they can translate their vision to the real world through our performance fabrics.”

Sunbrella Contract’s fabrics are designed to meet the nuanced challenges of today’s commercial environments, such as high foot-traffic, intense cleaning, and exposure to sun and rain. The company’s portfolio features a range of color palettes and styles, ranging from geometric patterns to subtle neutrals.

And as concerns mount about the health of our planet, Sunbrella Contract also is leading the way with its sustainability efforts. The company’s contract fabrics are certified by the NSF/ANSI 336 Sustainability Assessment for Commercial Furnishings Fabric, which is a system used by the Association for Contract Textiles to evaluate upholstery fabric against extensive requirements within categories of: fiber sourcing, safety of materials, water conservation and water quality, energy, recycling practices, air quality in manufacturing and social accountability.
