High Point’s Mill Village Collective Showcases 24 Design Manufacturers
Decades had passed since Highland Cotton Mills’s once-humming plant, opened in High Point in 1913, generated any commerce. Then Cisco Brothers acquired, restored, and opened the 240,000-square-foot structure as a showroom. The second story has now become Branscome International Group’s Mill Village Collective, an edited enclave of 24 manufacturers targeting the design trade—with narratives as fascinating as the products.
BuzziSpace, maker of the BuzziPleat acoustical treatment, is among the more established names. Eugene Stoltzfus Architects + Furniture, founded by the Rosetta Stone language software company’s former chairman and president, is
offering pieces such as the Zazen Meditation Hut, a shaded sanctuary in powder-coated steel. Introductions from Erica Gimson Design, founded by a onetime design director for the Macy’s Hotel Collection bedding line, include the small-batch digitally printed fabrics and pillows Cheetah Drip and Palm Stripe. North Carolina talents are well represented, of course. Swim Cap and Hare are by artist Rankin Willard, while the spalted-maple Elv credenza is by Enkle Designs.
