Hills Design Studio Brightens a Moscow Pediatric Ophthalmology Clinic with Sunny Accents
If all you had to go by were photos, you might not realize that the Clear View Clinic is set inside an early 19th-century mansion in the historic center of Moscow. The bright modern interiors of the 5,167-square-foot, three-story pediatric ophthalmology clinic, designed by Hills Design Studio, are practically devoid of any obvious clues to its past.
Tasked with opening up what had been a series of small rooms, the firm created entirely new spaces that are intentionally sunny and serene. White walls and marble-finish porcelain tile floors are punctuated with bright yellow accents offset by wood and brass details. Arches and circular forms are used to soften the spaces and “restore the dialogue of the historic building with its interiors,” notes architect Levan Davlianidze in reference to details lost during a ‘90s renovation.
The highlight, however, is the welcoming reception area, where an oversized eye-shaped mirror behind the desk greets patients with a not-so-subtle nod to the business at hand.
