Kim Markel Handcrafts Iridescent Stools From Recycled Plastic

Kim Markel’s stools/side tables are so pretty and translucent, they could have been sculpted from a block of ice. In reality, the 17-inch-high Glow is, like other pieces in the designer’s collection, handcrafted from a blend of recycled plastics, molded, and cured. Choose from a cool palette of aqua, pink, peach, periwinkle, gray, yellow, and frosty clear. Prior to launching her studio last year—and quickly nabbing a Best of Year Award—the Hudson Valley–based designer worked at the nation’s largest art foundry and for various city and state government projects. We think she’s found her métier.
