When tasked with creating a residential interior that suited the clients’ existing furnishings and achieved a contemporary aesthetic, the design team at Bright Designlab, a woman-owned firm in Portland, Oregon, jumped at the challenge. “Our clients came to us with a playful, bright-eyed energy that we poured into our overall concept, then drove every detail to encompass this energy into their space,” said Ally Hasche, an interior designer at the firm who helmed the Regency Moderne Vintage project along with colleague, Katie Dahl.

Striking a balance between old and new, the team collaborated with contemporary designers on lighting and furniture, while layering in a variety of vintage pieces, like the Viggo Boesen sofa in the main bedroom, and the 1970s Ingo Maurer Uchiwa pendant in the dining room. Clients also were treated to a custom dining table and built-in sofa. “We constantly asked ourselves along the way: How are we using this hodgepodge of languages to create one design-centric conversation that embodies our clients’ personality?” said Hasche. The resulting aesthetic draws on vibrant patterns and textures to create a unifying thread throughout the space, such as custom upholstery and rugs. “We aim to breathe life into old spaces, and create comfortable, livable, intentional interiors for our beloved clients,” adds Alissa Pulcrano, principal and founder of Bright Designlab. Mission accomplished.
