Studio Wills + Architects Thoughtfully Renovates a Singapore Apartment Around a Structural Wall

Frequent hosts, the clients asked Studio Wills + Architects for a space where they could comfortably entertain. Principal architect William Ng responded by redoing the layout of a 1,700-square-foot apartment in central Singapore. He reduced four bedrooms down to two, creating an expansive living and dining space. But not everything could be demolished—a structural wall in the center of the area needed to stay. “We turned it into a visual focus and a screen that reveals a constellation of spaces around it,” Ng says. It’s the sole black wall—the others are white and gray, lending a restrained palette that serves as a blank canvas for the client’s medley of furniture and artwork.
