STUDIOSC Designs Ground-Up Building in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn
A new ground-up building has been completed in Bedford–Stuyvesant, often called Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, bringing warm tones and a dramatic vaulted entrance to a rapidly changing neighborhood. Designed by Brooklyn architecture firm STUDIOSC, the multi-unit residential building boasts an expansive lobby flanked by a series of tall arches. Cutting through the space is an elevated hallway catwalk that looks down onto the lobby.
Inside and out, a strong sense of materials permeates the building. “We chose to soften the spatial connections and verticality with subtle curves accented by a natural material palette using terracotta brick tiles and blackened wood,” says STUDIOSC principal Stephen Conte. A striking terrazzo floor completes the look, sprinkling some texture and personality in the common areas.
