\n is actually getting younger, in terms of the artisans on view, and it is acquiring a more global accent. Yes, mid-century modern French furniture by the likes of Charlotte Perriand\u00a0and Jean Roy\u00e8re is still a staple at the fair, which opens its 11th glamorous edition on Wednesday in a tent next to the Miami Beach Convention Center with some 36 galleries exhibiting in the main sector.\n <\/p>\n

\n But the lineup includes six new dealer names, including the first gallery from Brazil to be included in the fair,
\n
\n Firma Casa
\n <\/a>
\n , which will be showing work by the ingenious and ubiquitous
\n
\n Campana Brothers
\n <\/a>
\n .\n <\/p>\n

\n And the youth movement\u2014as demonstrated in booths like that of New York\u2019s
\n

\n , showing the intricate glass work of Brooklyn-based 36-year-old

\n Thaddeus Wolfe
\n <\/a>
\n \u2014extends even to the venue itself.\n <\/p>\n

\n Continuing the theme of creating an entry pavilion with a new design collaborator each year, this time Design Miami partnered with students at
\n
\n Harvard\u2019s Graduate School of Design
\n <\/a>
\n . The roof of the structure, known as the \u201cpink cloud,\u201d is made up of 3D foam models of unbuilt, student-designed projects.\n <\/p>\n

\n
\n \u201cIt shows our commitment to supporting new voices at the fair,\u201d says Rodman Primack, the fair\u2019s director, who also runs the Design Miami edition in Basel, Switzerland in June. \u201cEvery year the fair seems to be trending younger and younger.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n
\n The smaller Design Curio section will have its second appearance this year, with an emphasis on quirky storytelling.
\n

\n Brand new this year at the fair is a cash-and-carry section, Design Miami Market, a retail space with ornaments and accessories\u2014also probably more appealing to younger buyers.\n <\/p>\n

\n And Primack says that he sees less technology for technology\u2019s sake. \u201cThere was a period when it was just an idea from a computer,\u201d he says. \u201cNow it\u2019s more of a mixed practice, combining tech and craft. I like the friction between the two much more than just \u2018Hey, I 3-D printed this.\u2019\u201d\n <\/p>\n
