They both are from Seoul, South Korea, studied architecture at the&nbsp;city\u2019s Kyung Hee University, and worked at Mass Studies at the same time. But last year, they forged different paths. Now 38 and 35 respectively, each has founded their own firm, with Hong the director at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecornerz.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cornerz<\/a> and Lim the principal at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sml-a.com\/sml-main\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SML<\/a>. Photography by Shinkyungsub.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"p2\">Their first completed project together is the wholesale center in&nbsp;Yeongju for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kpgnh.co.kr\/Lng\/en\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Punggi Ginseng Cooperative Association<\/a>. The association specializes in the production of health foods made with ginseng grown by Korean farmers in and around Punggi. Food company executives come to the 2,100-square-foot center to preview products before purchasing them in bulk. Red ginseng, known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, is cultivated for years under an artificial shade device made from wood and fabric called <i>sampoeojang. <\/i>One of Hong and Lim\u2019s main design moves at the center was to reinterpret the <i>sampoeojang<\/i> as display units.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/sdg-migration-id.s3.amazonaws.com\/Interior-Design-Cornerz-SML-Punggi-Ginseng-Cooperative-Association-Product-Niches.jpg\" alt=\"\" caption=\"true\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" class=\"lazyload\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/sdg-migration-id.s3.amazonaws.com\/Interior-Design-Cornerz-SML-Punggi-Ginseng-Cooperative-Association-Product-Niches.jpg\" alt=\"\" caption=\"true\"><\/noscript><figcaption>Custom oak-and-cloth wall displays, yet to be filled, are reinter\u00adpre\u00adtations of <em>sampoeojang<\/em>, traditional ginseng-cultivation modules. The laser-cut logo at the entry is internally lit and discreet. Inside, white-painted walls and flooring of white oak planks or polished concrete are similarly muted. Color does make an appearance, however.
