2014 Product Trend: Iridescence
Last year’s obsession with precious stones, marble and all things mineral has given rise to a slew of new designs with shimmering iridescent surfaces. From the serpent-esque roof of an office amenities building by Agence Jouin Manku and DTACC in France to the passivate finish of Brooklyn designer Bec Brittain’s angular Axial pendant for SCP, iridescence is being used across both large and small scale projects. The iridescent sheen on the lids of Phil Cuttance’s hand-cast resin Aurora Pots is created by submerging them under water and adding a few drops of polish onto the surface to form an oily slick. Prague-based designers Jan Plechá? & Henry Wielgus have launched a series of flatpack coffee tables made from glass and folded concertina metal. Called Ondulé, the tables are available in black and blue colorways as well as an stand-out passivate metal finish.
