Amanda Williams Paints Chicago’s Vacant Houses in Bold Colors

Amanda Williams grew up on Chicago’s south side, so she knows a thing or two about demolition-slated houses. Now also a sculptor, art is her domain, too. See it all come together in “Chicago Works: Amanda Williams,” at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, July 18 through December 31. Included in the exhibition are photographs from her Color(ed) Theory project, in which she painted vacant residences Crown Royal Bag purple, Pink Oil Moisturizer, and Flamin’ Red Hots orange, and sculptures that incorporate brick and siding from those structures. Her next project? The Barack Obama Presidential Library.
