Bernhardt Design Relocates to a Crisp White NYC Showroom by Rottet Studio
What was once a sleepy stretch near the Empire State Building has officially hit critical mass as a style corridor with the opening of Bernhardt Design’s relocated showroom by Rottet Studio. But don’t expect Interior Design Hall of Fame member Lauren Rottet to shout out the news. She conceived the monochromatic milieu to speak in a whisper.
Bookending the 20,000-square-foot space are massive slabs of Calacatta marble, their painterly veins snaking above the reception desk at one end and the bar at the other. Sunlight from a row of windows spills across the terrazzo floor, while an LED glow beneath strategically placed partitions makes them appear to float as they alternately conceal or reveal beams, pipe, and other raw elements. Ultimately, the architectural interventions are framing devices, allowing furniture by the likes of Ross Lovegrove and Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance to seize the spotlight.
