February 23 Marks First Annual National Tile Day

When it comes to today’s tile, there’s no shortage of form and function. Ceramic is available in a wide variety of attractive colors, shapes, sizes, and dimensions to achieve truly spectacular masterpieces. From the modest to the sublime, tile proves to be one of the most practical building materials.

Coverings, the largest international tile & stone show in North America, is putting a spotlight on the material during National Tile Day, February 23.

To celebrate tile, check out some of the reasons architects and designers specify ceramic:
 

Tile is durable and sustainable. Ceramic tile is a long lasting material, meaning there is a lower consumption of resources, which results in a lower environmental impact.
 

Tile is healthy. Fired in kilns to extremely high temperatures, tile does not release any volatile organic compounds. These harmful chemicals contribute to a variety of health problems in humans.
 

Tile is versatile. Because of its versatility, tile can be used on virtually any surface whether it’s curved, flat, indoors or outdoors, making it a perfect solution for any design.
 

Tile is energy efficient. Being made up of highly recyclable materials (sand, glass, clay) tile has a naturally low environmental impact. Additionally, due to its thermal mass, tile can even reduce the amount of energy needed for heating and cooling.
 

Tile is low maintenance. Scratch resistant and easy to clean, tile requires very little effort to maintain a sleek appearance.
