IDS Toronto 2018 Preview: 6 Must-Sees
From January 18-21, the Interior Design Show (IDS) will take over the Metro Toronto Convention Centre with a star-studded roster of highlights. This year’s theme, Future Forward, champions the innovative products and design concepts that have propelled the industry forward for decades. Headlining the annual conference are hip-hop architect Michael Ford, textile designer Kathryn F. Ireland, and, in celebration of the fair’s 20th anniversary, inaugural participants Karim Rashid and Brian Gluckstein. Exhibitors include Vitra, Interface, Bertazzoni, JAN KATH, and Cambria, among others. Check out more must-sees from the show below:
For its 2018 Designer Collaboration Program, Caesarstone teams up with New York design firm Snarkitecture to rethink the kitchen island. The installation, called “Altered States,” precedes a larger-scale debut during Milan Design Week in April.
Inspired by Toronto’s cultural diversity, AyA Kitchens in partnership with U31 Design and Cleaf will present “The Future of Canadian Living,” consisting of several pod-like “treehouses” that display innovative uses of texture, height, and space.
Exploring the momentum of new technology, interactive forest-like installation “How Bright Is Our Future?” by Design Workshop Architects will ask visitors to react to the most promising and terrifying changes that inform our future, and record how they view that topic; either as one of hope or one of fear.
Ontario Wood, an initiative that helps consumers identify and purchase regionally sourced wooden products, will present the Clover Pavilion, a group of partially enclosed floral display areas that feature tension-activated plywood petals.
To celebrate its 10th anniversary, furniture brand Avenue Road collaborated with Interior Design Hall of Fame members Yabu Pushelberg for the Celebration Collection, which includes the limited-edition Gin Lane bar cart.
IDS Toronto’s MAKER section spotlights emerging and small businesses and will feature five new exhibitors: Christopher Solar Design, Kastella, KROFT, Luxi Studioworks, and Pelle.
