Each is well-known in their own right. But graphic designers Stefan Sagmeister and Jessica Walsh experienced joint celebrity when, to announce the launch of their firm in 2012, they published a photograph of themselves naked on the Internet. Work for such clients as
the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, among countless others, soon followed. Now, the two have masterminded an exhibition for another museum: “Sagmeister & Walsh: Beauty” at the MAK in Vienna through March 31, 2019. Spreading across the entire institution, the comprehensive show is divided into six themes, some of them immersive. The blue-and-pink Color Room, for example, is lit with a special light to make some areas appear gray. Visitors to the Sensory Room, a collaboration with Swarovski, are shrouded in fog as they encounter changing sunset colors, a citrus scent, and Malaysian tree frog sounds, all meant to create a beautiful sensory experience.
