Interior Design ‘s Health Care and Wellness Advisory Council convenes twice yearly to discuss current and futuristic design for health care and wellness. The Council is comprised of top industry leaders who will advise Interior Design on innovation, standards, challenges, and design trends in health care, and the emphasis on designing for wellness across all industry sectors.

Clare Ardizzone , Senior Interior Designer, Loebl Schlossman & Hackl I have been actively engaged in the Interior Design Profession for more than 25 years, over 15 of those years in Health Care design. Sonja Bochart , Senior Interior Designer, SmithGroup Sonja Bochart has more than 17 years of experience as a commercial interior designer. Her portfolio includes educational, community and international medical facilities, as well as corporate spaces and mixed use structures. Sonja’s commitment in creating meaningful spaces is anchored in her work as an interior designer shaping spaces for connection and deep transformation—striving to create authentic spaces for living well. She weaves together principles of Biophilia, Evidence Based Design, Planetree and Sustainability. Ken Bowman , Interior Designer/Interior Design Manager, Earl Swensson Associates
Since Ken Bowman joined ESa in 1990, several of his projects have received award recognition. With more than twenty years of healthcare experience, Bowman has devoted his career to the design of healing environments. Of note, he has served as Lead Interior Designer for several Planetree projects, including the award-winning Midwest Medical Center’s critical access hospital replacement and VA New Jersey Healthcare System’s continuing care experiential learning environment. Bowman has extensive experience in the interior design of healthcare facilities, educational facilities, libraries, corporate offices, hospitality facilities and senior living communities. In addition to being responsible for management of ESa’s interior design work, Bowman’s capabilities and experience include systematic design development based on documentation and programming of operational procedures and space requirements, construction documents, millwork details, furniture layouts and furniture and drapery bid packages for distribution to prospective bidders. |

Elizabeth (Betsy) Brawley , Healthcare Interior Designer, Design Concepts Unlimited As president of Design Concepts Unlimited, Betsy Brawley has practiced interior design for more than twenty-five years. She specializes in design for Alzheimer’s Special Care, Senior Living, and a variety of Healthcare and Senior Living settings ranging from independent living, adult day health care, residential care and assisted living, skilled nursing, and Alzheimer’s special care. Her work includes both interior and outdoor garden settings that provide supportive and therapeutic environments for aging and Alzheimer’s special care. |

Donald Cremers , Vice President Interiors, HOK Donald Cremers, CID, LEED AP, is a Senior Project Interior Designer in HOK’s San Francisco office, with broad experience that includes projects within the workplace, public, education, hospitality, and healthcare markets. Always working closely with the architecture, Donald designs healthy interiors that respond to the context of the site and structure in which the interior exists. His more recent focus on healthcare projects range from large acute-care hospitals to smaller specialty clinics, including work throughout the west coast and in Asia. Donald is also an award winning designer of interior materials targeted to healthcare and other high-performance markets. |

Haley Driscoll , Director of Healthcare Interior Design, Francis Cauffman Haley Driscoll is the Director of Healthcare Interior Design at Francis Cauffman. With over twenty years in the industry, Ms. Driscoll has a particular sensitivity to designing around the patient centered care model and evidence base design. Her strong working knowledge of design in the healthcare environment has earned the role of “trusted advisor” from her clients. As the leader of Francis Cauffman’s healthcare interior design group, they have earned numerous awards including the Best Healthcare Award from the Philadelphia Chapter of the IIDA. She lives with her husband, two teenage sons, her mother and a lively Viszla in Moorestown, NJ. |

Tama Duffy Day , Firmwide Health & Wellness Practice Leader, Gensler Tama Duffy Day is a Firmwide Practice Area Leader at Gensler. Her three decades of experience includes projects with academic medical centers and community hospitals, to retail health centers. A frequent columnist, lecturer and spokesperson, Tama is dedicated to raising awareness of the impact that design has on health. Having received more than 100 awards and honors for her work, for three consecutive years Tama was named one of the “Most Influential People in Healthcare Design” by Healthcare Design magazine. Tama is one of a few professionals who have been elected to the College of Fellows for both IIDA and ASID. |

David Jaeger, Design Principal, Harley Ellis Devereaux David Jaeger has been practicing health care design for over 30 years. In one of the most remarkable periods of change in the health care industry, David has been a leader in the design of environments that help shape the future. David has been active regionally and nationally with several speaking engagements primarily focused on the interrelationship of environmental design and better clinical and experiential outcomes. David’s breadth and depth of knowledge in all aspects of health care design provides him with an ability to see the big picture and detail so important in design of complex environments. David is a board director and principal in architectural design for Harley Ellis Devereaux. He leads design for the healthcare studio across three geographic regions, building a national practice in every aspect from strategic planning through detailed design. The focus of design within Harley Ellis Devereaux is toward research, innovation and evidence based design. David’s role in this is to instill the firm’s values and constantly focus attention toward these primary objectives. |

Courtney Johnston, Interior Design Director, Perkins + Will As the Director of Design for Interiors in the Perkins+Will Dallas office, Courtney Johnston is a key figure in supporting the integrated design approach bringing creative solutions to projects from concept to completion. She is a talented designer with experience many project types and sizes, from medical suites to new cancer centers and hospitals. Courtney’s innovative approach to mentoring and teaching have helped develop interior design programs at national universities. Her responsibilities begin with initial programming working directly with clients to establish project goals and objectives; she develops design concepts, color and material palettes, furniture selections, and develops the designs through aid in documentation and specification. |

Nila R. Leiserowitz , FASID, IIDA, Regional Managing Principal, Gensler Nila R. Leiserowitz has spent over 35 years pushing the limits of interior design and workplace performance strategy. Internationally recognized as a leader in workplace design innovation, Nila has won numerous awards and honors from IIDA, AIA and ASID, including its 2007 Designer of Distinction Award. Most recently, she was awarded the IIDA Leadership Award of Excellence for her contribution to the industry. As a managing principal of Gensler’s North Central region, she oversees the business development of four Midwestern offices, simultaneously leading and challenging a staff of more than 300 professionals. As co-leader of Gensler’s Health & Wellness practice, Nila brings her trademark user-centered approach to redefining the experience of healthcare. |

Amy Mays , Interior Design Principal, HDR Architecture Amy Mays is an Interior Design Principal based in HDR’s New York office, with over 17 years of experience. She has significant knowledge in patient centered care, evidence based design and has dedicated her career to creating innovative healing spaces. She has extensive experience in acute care and pediatric design. During her career, Amy has had the opportunity to work with some the leading healthcare organizations in the country, such as Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Columbia University Medical Center and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Jane Rohde , Principal, JSR Associates Jane Rohde champions a widespread global cultural shift toward de-institutionalized senior living facilities through her consulting, research and advocacy, which provides services to non-profit and for-profit developers, government agencies, and senior living and care providers. She also provides education to providers, regulators, and peers on senior living trends, programming and design that support and improve the lives of elders. Her leadership has garnered the creation of the Facility Guidelines Institute’s Guidelines for Design and Construction of Residential Health, Care, and Support Facilities, a guideline utilized as code for the licensing of long term care and related facility types. |
