LEED-Certified Building Projects Hit 12,000 in 12 Years

The top authority standard in green building today is celebrating a birthday with a significant milestone. The

U.S. Green Building Council’s

(USGBC)

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design

(LEED) program turns 12 this year, and, coincidentally, they have just hit the 12,000 mark for LEED-certified commercial projects across the globe. The 12,000th LEED-Gold project is the

Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge

in Anahuac, Texas—a rebuild following the original facility’s destruction in 2008 by Hurricane Ike. The new structure, a U.S. National Park, will be home to wildlife exhibits and an environmental education center.
