Molteni&C and Rubelli Celebrate Gio Ponti at Venice Biennale’s 13th International Architecture Exhibition

are co-hosting an exhibition honoring legendary Italian architect Gio Ponti. “Vivere alla Ponti: Experiments in Domestic Life and Architecture for Living and Working.” On display for a second time after its debut in Milan earlier this year, the exhibition will include a visual narrative of Ponti’s life told through family photographs and letters and meant to pay homage to the enduring relevance and modernity of his aesthetic.

To mark the occasion, Molteni&C has reissued a collection of Ponti’s iconic furniture designs from the 1930s through the 1950s, including the pièce de résistance, an armchair designed for his Milan home that was shown at the 1934 Biennale. The chair will be shown in two Ponti-designed velvet damask fabrics by Rubelli; the Punteggiato, with raised velvet polka dots in warm tones on a metallic background, and the Rattoppato, a plush velvet emblazoned with geometric crosshatching.

The collection, realized with the art direction of Studio Cerri & Associati, includes furniture and interior decoration items designed by Gio Ponti between 1935 (chair for the first Palazzo Montecatini) and the 1950s (bookcase, chest of drawers, tea table, frames and a rug for Casa Ponti in via Dezza in Milan, 1956-57).

“Vivere alla Ponti” will be displayed in Rubelli’s historic headquarters at Palazzo Corner Spinelli (San Marco 3877, 30124 Venezia), with a discussion panel and opening event on August 28th at 6 p.m.
